JESSICA YAMADA AND KARIN FUKUSHIMA BEATS SWEDEN

Seventeen year old Jessica Yamada from São Paulo guided top seeds Brazil safely through the group stage of the Girls' Team event at the Venezuelan Junior Open Championships in Valencia on Thursday 2nd March 2007.
She remained unbeaten in her singles contests as the Brazilians overcame both Spain and Venezuela `B' to secure top spot in Group `A' and a safe passage into the second stage.
Also in top form were the Swedes Felicia Falck and Madeleine Melcher of Sweden; seeded two they recorded three-nil wins against both Chile and Venezuela `C' on the opening day of play to finish as the leaders of Group Two.
Success for the visitors and there was joy for the hosts with Ruaida Ezzeddine and Jennypher Orellana accounting for both Argentina and Cuba to end the day as the number team in Group Three.
Venezuela `B' Overcome
Brazil started their programme against Venezuela `B' with a three-one win the order of the day. Matters started well for the hosts with the defensive skills of Cruz Aguilar accounting for Karin Fukushima but that was the end of their success.
Jessica Yamada defeated both Jennyliz Orellana and Cruz Aguilar whist teaming with Karin Fukushima to win the doubles and ensure victory.
Spain Defeated
A three-one score line was also the end result against Spain. Jessica Yamada beat both Marta Alech and Carmen Solichero, the latter in a tough five games duel, whilst Karin Fukushima accounted for Carmen Solichero.
The one reverse for Brazil came in the doubles with Marta Alech and Carmen Solichero overcoming Livia Mizobuchi and Jessica Yamada.
Impressive Swedes
An impressive performance by Jessica Yamada and equally impressive were the Swedes Felicia Falck and Madeleine Melcher.
Against Venezuela `C', Felicia Falck beat Margelis Lara, Madeleine Melcher overcame Carmen Jimenez and the two combined to win the doubles over Juliana Hernandez and Stefani Zambrano to bring the fixture to a conclusion.
In the second encounter against Chile, the Swedes were just as impressive. Felicia Falck beat Blanca Duran Duran in three straight games; Madeleine Melcher overcame Paula Avalos in four games whilst with no game surrendered, the doubles was secured to end a successful day for the Europeans.
Ruaida Ezzeddine in Form
Meanwhile, for Venezuela, Ruaida Ezzeddine and Jennypher Orellana beat Argentina's Ana Codina and Brenda Paez by three matches to nil before accounting for Cuba by three matches to one with Ruaida Ezzeddine the backbone of success.
She beat both Leisy Jimenez and Heylyn Trujillo whilst teaming with Jennypher Orellana to win the doubles; the one Cuban success came in the opening match when Heyleyn Trujillo defeated Jennypher Orellana.
Remaining Matches
Two teams from each group qualify for the second stage. Top seeds Brazil have completed their group matches whilst second seeds Sweden and third seeds Venezuela `A' each have one remaining duel each.
Sweden face Trinidad and Tobago whilst Venezuela `A' confront Venezuela `D'. The group stage matches conclude on Friday 2nd March 2007.
